A ten year resident of the area, Martin Mariner provides emotional and spiritual support as part of the healing process for patients and staff of UF Health Flagler Hospital. He is a trained Stephen Minister, in addition to his chaplain training and experience.
Martin is active in his church and Home Again St. Johns’ Dining with Dignity. He also plays the trombone in the Saint Augustine Community Band and is a member of the Florida Sea Kayak Association.
Martin holds an Engineering degree from Northeastern University and an MBA from Syracuse University. He retired from Corning Inc. as Vice President of Quality. He has also served as Chair of the Conference Board Quality Control and Baldrige Advisory Council for the Commerce Department.
Bobby Crum currently serves as the Chairman of the UF Health Flagler Hospital Chaplains’ Steering Committee and has served as a UF Health Flagler Hospital chaplain for over five years. He resides in St. Augustine with his wife Patty and two children. He is the Worship and Teaching Pastor at Anastasia Baptist Church. Bobby holds a Master of Divinity, MDivBL, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a native of Richmond, Virginia and has lived in St. Augustine for over twenty years.
Bobby loves the beach, gardening, guitar, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) along with family time. He has served on various community boards over the years including the SJCSD Character Counts advisory board. Bobby currently serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of St. Johns County and the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of St. Augustine. He is also a writer/contributor for Old City Life Magazine.
Gil Leduc is originally from Canada and moved to Ohio where he worked with his brother at an ice-skating show. In 1981, Gil accepted the Lord as his Savior. He felt the calling of God to the ministries and began to minister to the people in nursing homes in song and testimony. Since, Gil has done many visitations in hospitals, burn units, Hospices, St. Francis house, street ministry, shelters, prisons, and jails.
Gil is an ordained and licensed minister. He resides in St. Augustine with his wife Shirley, who is also a UF Health Flagler Hospital chaplain. Together they hold church services at Summer Breeze Apartments and Coral Landing. Gil has been a UF Health Flagler Hospital chaplain for over seven years.
Gil loves to walk on the beach, work out at the gym, and spend time at the Mission downtown for prayer and quiet time with the Lord.
Julie Mariner currently lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and is originally from Wales, in the United Kingdom where she trained as a Registered Nurse. Julie then moved to the United States and served as a Head Nurse in Massachusetts.
For many years she volunteered in Stonecroft Ministries (an interdenominational, international ministry based in Kansas City), serving as a Regional Representative for Western New York and is currently an Inspirational Speaker for this Ministry in Florida.
Julie is trained as a Stephen Minister, currently leads an Interdenominational Neighborhood Weekly Bible Study and is actively involved in her church and in the Home Again St. Johns’ Dining with Dignity Program for the homeless.
Julie is married to Martin Mariner and they are parents of three children and six grandchildren.
Becky Weiss looks upon UF Health Flagler Hospital as a caring place of healing and she has been a Flagler Chaplin for over five years. Beacky is a native of St. Louis, Missourim but having lived in St. Augustine for over twenty years, she now regards St. Augustine as "home." She loves the natural beauty, rich history, and warm and welcoming people of the Oldest City.
A retired educator, Becky has taught on the pre-school, middle school, and college levels. Her areas of concentration were Language Arts, Reading, and American history. Since retirement, Becky has served in many capacities in her church including Lay Leader, Care Team Coordinator, Evangelism Chair, and Women’s Group President. In addition, she is trained as a local church Lay Servant within her denomination. She has also been a part of Bible Study Fellowship International for over 10 years.
Serving as a Community Hospice and Palliative Care volunteer is also one of Becky’s activities. Her favorite way to serve is to take her pet therapy dog, Cookie, to visit long term care and assisted living facilities. Becky and Cookie are a pet therapy team for the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and Canines for Christ in addition to Community Hospice.
Becky and her husband have two children and two grandchildren. A love of reading has long been a part of Becky’s life and she has participated in local book discussion groups. She also enjoys traveling and three of her favorite destinations have been Ireland, Alaska, and Williamsburg, Virginia. When time permits, she enjoys various craft projects.
Dick Talbert has been a Chaplain at UF Health Flagler Hospital for over 14 years and a Chaplain on Staff at Bayview for over four years. He is an Ordained Deacon and Licensed Chaplain with Anastasia Baptist Church. Chaplain Talbert is past Chairman of the Deacons and a trained Critical Care Response Team member. He attended Chaplaincy Training at Lee University and earned his master’s degree from the University of Florida.
Chaplain Talbert has had a very active career in the community, having served previously as President of United Way St. Johns County, Chairman of the American Red Cross Chapter for St. Johns County and Marion County, President of the Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns County, and as a board member of Salvation Army in St. Johns County. Dick also served as a Heavy Rescue Fire Officer in Washington DC and was an educator at First Coast Technical College.
